The Franklin Pierce University Spirit Program is an inclusive organization committed to providing all members with excellent collegiate cheer and dance experience. The program welcomes and embraces student-athletes from all backgrounds and experience levels to become valued and integral team members through structured training, discipline, and instruction. With the support of FPU Athletics, this program will create opportunity for all whether that be on the sidelines, or on the competition floor.
Audition Process
The FPU Dancers will have both a sideline and competitive option. While all skill levels are welcome for sideline dance, competition team members need to be able to demonstrate a particular skillset (see table below).
We strongly encourage participation in an evaluation clinic to prepare for auditions. These clinics will allow prospective team members prep their skills and receive feedback from the coaches to help ensure the athlete has best material prepared.
The cost of an audition clinic is $25/pp.
The Auditions
In order to audition, all athletes must have submitted an application to FPU.
Prospective dancers will be required to perform a dance and a self-choreographed solo if possible.
Prospective dancers will be judged by confidence levels, ability to connect with the audience, adapt to sudden changes, ability to use spiral and twist, precise transitions, and a sense of rhythm.
Improvisation
Dancers should be able to apply corrections quickly and move on to show how much you enjoy dancing.
Personality
Dancers will be asked to try to go beyond steps and technique and demonstrate your personality and maturity as a dancer.
There is a $25 audition fee.
Placement Announcements
Placement announcements will be made no later than April 13th.
Once tryout results are concluded we will have weekly open practices - Dates/times/ location TBD.
